Tasked with designing a game inspired by local landscape I started by making a trip to explore the trails in Payne’s Prairie State Park. Divided by a highway, this place can be experienced up close or in a fleeting drive. I was inspired by the captivating and eerie atmosphere that overtakes the park at twilight hour as the sun sets over a lake of lilly pads, tall grass, and wild life all bordered by a sweeping canopy of trees. It feels otherworldly, like a background in a fairy-tale or a scene in a deceptively inviting thriller. This drove my design process for a simple yet mystical game made for all ages.
