DESCRIPTION

Input Memory Source is a case study of the evolution of video recording technology and the great format war explored through digital zine format. The spreads contain creator commentaries that discuss a 20-something's perspective and fuzzy core memories of a revolutionary and now obsolete piece of home entertainment. This project was inspired by the question: Why has 90's nostalgia rapidly emerged in recent years? A question that can surprisingly be answered through a VHS case study.

PROCESS

Nostalgia has always been deeply fascinating to me, now more than ever as 80’s and 90’s aesthetics overrun our pop culture, which is largely curated by my generation and the two surrounding it. The connection between an earlier era of “simpler times” and a generation that was barely born in time to participate in it, yet obsessed with it none-the-less, made me want to explore what links the two. How? Through a case study on outdated video formats obviously. This angle actually occurred to me as I noticed the trend of VHS static and grain taking over social media filters and music videos. So this became the lens I used to explore the topic.
